The quote above is how we feel about marketing management and marketing project management: in order to launch successful marketing campaigns, you need to ‘sharpen your axe’ – that is, you need to research, plan, prepare, and manage the marketing process from start to finish. Only then will you be successful. You cannot rush into the process without first completing the background stages. It’s like trying to chop down a tree with a dull axe. You’ll exhaust yourself and do a lousy job.
